Ann Shenethia Manuel, assistant vice president of human resources at McHenry County College in Crystal Lake, Ill., has been named the director of human resources and affirmative action at Missouri University of Science and Technology. Manuel’s appointment will begin April 6.

Dr. Zaal Machavariani, an associate professor of physics at Tbilisi State University, Tbilisi, Georgia, has been awarded a 2007-2008 Fulbright Scholar grant to do research relevant to fusion as a sustainable energy source at the University of Missouri-Rolla campus. UMR will become Missouri University of Science and Technology on Jan. 1, 2008.

Dr. Bonnie Bachman, a senior director at Flextronics International, will become the new chair of the interdisciplinary engineering department at the University of Missouri-Rolla effective Dec. 20. Dr. Ralph E. Flori, associate professor of interdisciplinary engineering, is serving as interim chair until Bachman arrives. Flori succeeds Dr. Ron Fannin, who has retired.

Chandrashekhara, professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at the University of Missouri-Rolla and director of UMR’s Composite Manufacturing Laboratory, has been named Curators’ Professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering. The title will be conferred during UMR commencement ceremonies Saturday, Dec. 15.
