Missouri S&T to hire new library dean this summer

Missouri S&T will welcome a new dean of the library this summer. Dr. Hsin-liang (Oliver) Chen will begin his position as dean of the Curtis Laws Wilson Library on July 1, 2019. He will also have a courtesy appointment in Missouri S&T’s business and information technology department.

Missouri S&T breaks ground on expansion, doubling the space for student design teams

A Mars rover designed and built by students broke ground on an 8,000-square-foot expansion of the Kummer Student Design Center at Missouri S&T on Friday, April 26. The expansion will double the size of the design center, home of Missouri S&T’s 20 student design teams.

Missouri S&T to celebrate expansion of fitness center

Missouri S&T will celebrate the completion of the $4 million expansion of the campus fitness center this month. Missouri S&T Student Council leaders and the athletics department will host a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4:45 p.m. Thursday, April 25, in the Student Recreation Center of the Gale Bullman Building, located at 10th Street and Bishop Avenue in Rolla. Students, faculty and staff who attend will get a first look at the renovated facility.

Missouri S&T grad helps capture first-ever image of a black hole

For the first time ever, scientists have captured an image of a black hole, and a Missouri S&T graduate played an important role. Dr. Frederick K. Baganoff, a research scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Kavli Institute for Astrophysics and Space Research, is among the collaborators on the international Event Horizon Telescope project to produce the first direct images of a black hole. Baganoff earned a bachelor of science degree in physics from Missouri S&T in 1985.
