Missouri students who plan to enroll at Missouri S&T next fall as freshmen or transfer students may do so without paying the university’s $50 application fee – as long as they apply by Dec. 1, 2018.

Award-winning paleontologist Joseph J. Kchodl, better known as “Paleo Joe,” will discuss “Digging for Dinosaurs in Utah” at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, on the Missouri S&T campus. The talk will be held in Planje Auditorium (Room 204) of McNutt Hall and is open to the public.

Fine Linen Theatre grows into Rolla fixture — with plenty of help from Missouri S&T community members
Sixteen years ago, Dr. Keith Nisbett and his wife, Kim, didn’t set out to create an entrenched artistic home for amateur actors across south-central Missouri. As homeschool parents, they simply wanted to provide eldest daughter Amy, then a teenager, with the opportunity to perform on stage.That first show — From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, an adaptation of a popular children’s book — quickly became a full-fledged production. And as the nonprofit theater has laid down roots in Rolla, it’s evolved from a Nisbett family affair into a full-fledged community theater, with a healthy dose of participation by Missouri S&T students, staff, other faculty members and the community.

Dr. Gregory E. Hilmas, a ceramic engineer and leading expert in methods to create more durable, next-generation materials, has been named chair of materials science and engineering at Missouri S&T.
The Curators’ Distinguished Professor of ceramic engineering has served as interim department chair since July 2017. He succeeds Dr. Matthew J. O’Keefe, executive director of the Haley Barbour Center for Manufacturing Excellence at the University of Mississippi

Missouri S&T civil engineering professor advocates for Midwest tornado preparation
Growing up in northeast China, Dr. Guirong (Grace) Yan didn’t see many tornados in a country where the number of documented twisters is a fraction of those that hit the United States. But as her academic career took Yan to several postdoctoral fellowships and then faculty positions in Indiana, Missouri and Texas, the assistant professor of structural engineering at Missouri S&T gradually found her calling.
