Missouri S&T student receives NASA fellowship
Andrew Hinkle, a Ph.D. student in aerospace engineering at Missouri S&T, is part of a select group of graduate students across the U.S. to receive a NASA Space Technology Research Fellowship (NSTRF). Through the award, Hinkle plans to help advance the agency’s understanding of how particle flows such as Martian dust storms could affect spacecraft landings.

Missouri S&T will host the upcoming annual conference of the NASA-Missouri Space Grant Consortium (MOSGC). The two-day event showcases research in fields of interest to NASA by students at all four UM System campuses, Missouri State University, Lincoln University, Washington University, Truman State University and Saint Louis University. There will also be participants from Metropolitan Community College and Moberly Area Community College.

Janet Kavandi selected for US Astronaut Hall of Fame
Dr. Janet Kavandi, veteran astronaut and a graduate of Missouri S&T, has been selected for induction into the United States Astronaut Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony is scheduled for April 6 at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Florida.

Missouri S&T civil engineering professor named Fulbright distinguished chair in Australia
A Missouri S&T civil engineering professor will lecture and conduct research in Australia as a Fulbright scholar in advanced science and technology.
Dr. William Schonberg, professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering, has been named a Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Advanced Science and Technology. His appointment begins in January 2019 at the Defence Science and Technology Group, a government agency in Melbourne.
S&T student Katelyn Brinker earns NASA fellowship
Katelyn Brinker, a master of science student in electrical engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology, has earned a NASA Space Technology Research Fellowship (NSTRF). Brinker joins a small group of students from throughout the United States who show potential to contribute to NASA’s goal of creating innovative space technologies for the nation’s science, exploration and economic future.

Missouri S&T graduate student awarded top IEEE honor
A Missouri University of Science and Technology graduate student has received a top award from a leading academic honor society for engineers. Katelyn Brinker of Highland, Illinois, is co-winner of the 2017 Alton B. Zerby and Carl T. Koerner Outstanding Student Award from IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu (HKN). The honor society for electrical and computer engineers is an affiliate of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the world’s largest technical professional organization for the advancement of technology.

Missouri S&T student team competes in finals of IEEE space antenna design contest
A three-person team of Missouri S&T engineering students is headed to California to vie for top honors in an international competition to construct more reliable antennas used in space travel by small satellites. The student design contest, which begins Sunday in San Diego, is sponsored by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the world’s largest technical professional association. The Missouri University of Science and Technology team is one of six finalists, including university teams from Canada and Sweden.
