Statement from Chancellor Schrader regarding Gov. Nixon’s STEM proposal

In response to Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon’s “State of the State” proposal to increase science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education funding, Missouri University of Science and Technology Chancellor Cheryl B. Schrader issued this statement:

“There is no sector of our economy poised for more growth than the STEM fields, and the key to meeting the increased demand for these skilled employees is education. Research from the Missouri Department of Economic Development shows that Missouri’s 2020 projected job growth for STEM occupations is higher than the average expected combined growth for all occupations in the state. With dozens of STEM degree options as well as STEM education options that begin at the elementary level, Missouri S&T is well positioned to meet these educational needs of our state.”

S&T offers master’s in industrial-organizational psychology

To help meet the growing need for human resources and talent management professionals, Missouri University of Science and Technology is offering a new master of science degree program in industrial-organizational psychology beginning spring 2014. The program was approved by the Coordinating Board for Higher Education in December.

Spring enrollment numbers up at Missouri S&T

Enrollment for the first day of classes at Missouri University of Science and Technology was 7,296, a 6.5 percent increase from last year’s first day of spring enrollment, says Deanne Jackson, Missouri S&T registrar. This is the 12th consecutive year of enrollment increases.

‘A Day ON, Not a Day Off’ for many S&T students Jan. 20

A record number of civic-minded students at Missouri University of Science and Technology will participate in the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service by taking “A Day ON, Not a Day Off” on Monday, Jan. 20. This year, 240 students will volunteer throughout Phelps County, up 20 percent over last year’s participation.
