Jean Carnahan named Honorary St. Patrick, Honorary Knights also announced

Former U.S. Sen. Jean Carnahan has been named Honorary St. Patrick for the 101st St. Pat’s Celebration in Rolla.
In addition, the Missouri University of Science and Technology committee that helps organize St. Pat’s events has named eight individuals Honorary Knights of St. Patrick for 2009. The Honorary Knights are Kathy Allison, Dr. Cynthia Bolon, Linda Bramel, Rodney Edwards, Gary Forsee, Ron Miller, Darlene Ramsay and Randy Stoll.

Missouri S&T team hopes to launch satellites

The Missouri Satellite (M-SAT) team at Missouri University of Science and Technology has been chosen as one of 11 teams nationwide to compete in the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Nanosat 6 competition. The winning team will eventually see its spacecraft launched into orbit.

In Rolla, St. Pat’s tradition continues

St. Patrick lived roughly 1,600 years ago and historians will tell you he wasn’t really Irish – he was probably Welsh. Legend has it that he was kidnapped as a teenager by pirates and taken to Ireland, where he was enslaved. He escaped and eventually became the patron saint of Ireland. (After becoming a Bishop, he went back to Ireland and ultimately died there.) He was never an engineer and there haven’t been snakes in Ireland since before the last ice age.

Goff, vice provost and dean of enrollment management at Missouri University of Science and Technology, as the strategic enrollment management conference coordinator for four-year colleges and universities. The appointment is for the next three years.
