Earth Day will be celebrated Wednesday, April 22, at Missouri University of Science and Technology. This year’s theme is “Let’s Go Green!”
Approximately 1,000 area school kids are expected to participate in Rolla Earth Day 2009 activities. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Havener Center on the Missouri S&T campus, rain or shine.
The celebration will feature live entertainment from Purple Gas Caps, Pauline’s Basement and Diezelfitters. A fashion show featuring clothing from recycled materials (plastic garments, purses made from recycled tire treads, etc.) will be held at 2 p.m. Those interested in modeling for the fashion show should contact Julie Wilson at wilsonjulie@mst.edu.
Missouri S&T’s hydrogen fueling station and the Solar Village on campus will be open for tours throughout the day. For more information, visit http://green.mst.edu/earthday.html .
Children’s activities include art projects, face painting, flower planting, recycling games, tie dying, and a reading circle. The general public can learn about the Earth and the environment through informational exhibits and a poster competition.
Free tree saplings will be available to those who attend the event, as supplies last. Earth Day T-shirts and tote bags are available for $10 or $12, depending on the size. Purchase of Earth Day products automatically enters you in door prize drawings.
