S&T announces Undergraduate Research Conference winners

Nineteen students in eight categories received recognition and cash awards as winners of the 14th annual Undergraduate Research Conference at Missouri S&T. The conference featured oral and poster exhibitions that represented work from students in nearly every major at Missouri S&T. First-place winners were awarded a cash prize of $500. Second- and third-place finishers received $250 and $100, respectively.

The fine art of farm life

Kayla McBride’s favorite view, the one that inspires most of her artwork, is of the rolling hills of her family’s 160-acre Bakersfield, Mo., farm.

“I don’t really have a studio, but I do try to make that my view,” says the biological sciences sophomore. “Anytime there is a beautiful sunset, I just look at it and think, ‘How could I recreate that?’ Pictures don’t do it justice.”

During morning and afternoon ceremonies, two undergraduate students – one representing the College of Arts, Sciences, and Business (CASB) and one representing the College of Engineering and Computing (CEC) – as well as a graduate student will speak.

Daniel Roesch, a graduating senior in ceramic engineering with minors in chemistry and studio art, has earned Missouri S&T’s 2018 Renaissance Student Award. S&T ‘s College of Arts, Sciences, and Business and the arts, languages and philosophy department presented the award, which includes a $1,000 prize, in a ceremony on campus today at the Havener Center.

Landers named Curators’ Distinguished Professor at Missouri S&T

Dr. Robert Landers, professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology, has been named Curators’ Distinguished Professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering. Landers will be officially recognized during Missouri S&T’s commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 12. The University of Missouri System Board of Curators bestows the honorary title upon outstanding scholars with established reputations in the field of study. Landers is being recognized for his work in the automation and control of manufacturing processes.
