S&T teacher education student and Rolla Middle School teacher selected for Space Symposium

The Space Foundation chose a Missouri University of Science and Technology education student and her mentor teacher at Rolla Middle School to attend the 35th Space Symposium this month. They will serve as teacher liaisons at the symposium April 8-11 at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

A conversation with international students

They leave their families and home countries and travel long hours to arrive in the small town of Rolla, Missouri, to attend Missouri S&T. Once here, international students face challenges unfamiliar to most native-born U.S. citizens: language barriers, housing, making new connections, and adjusting to different food, weather and customs.

But with support from their fellow international students, their new community and Missouri S&T, many of them overcome each of these challenges, build new networks of friends and succeed academically.

Missouri S&T disc golf team places fourth in national championship

UPDATE: Over spring break, the Missouri S&T Miner Disc Golf Team placed fourth out of 36 teams at the National Collegiate Disc Golf Championship in Georgia. Team member Mark Anderson finished No. 1 overall as the individual national champion.

PREVIOUS STORY: Members of Missouri S&T’s disc golf team are headed to Georgia over spring break to compete in the National Collegiate Disc Golf Championship.

The Miner Disc Golf Club will take three teams and 12 players to the event in Appling, Georgia, March 27-30.

Missouri S&T selects 2019 St. Pat and court

Peter Doran, a senior in engineering management at Missouri S&T, will portray St. Patrick during the 111th celebration of St. Pat’s in Rolla. Doran is from Kansas City, Missouri. St. Pat and his court will officially arrive in downtown Rolla at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, March 13. Following a procession through downtown, the court will preside over follies at the pavilion on 9th and Oak streets near the railroad tracks.

Bands Bowling for Soup and 3OH!3 to headline St. Pat’s concert

Rock-and-roll band Bowling for Soup and electronic pop duo 3OH!3 will headline the Grateful Board festival concert during the 111th annual St. Pat’s celebration at Missouri S&T. The musical artists will wrap up the university’s weeklong celebration with a free concert for the community.

Missouri S&T invites the public to Smithsonian-sponsored exhibit on infectious disease outbreaks

Missouri S&T’s biological sciences department will host a public exhibit, “Outbreak: Epidemics in a Connected World,” from Friday, March 1 until Sunday, March 17 at The Centre recreational complex at 1200 Holloway St. in Rolla. The exhibit will be available for viewing during The Centre’s regular hours of operation.

Missouri students find a helping hand in Avery Welker

It isn’t difficult to spot Avery Welker in a crowd. At 6 feet 4 inches tall, the Missouri S&T graduate student towers above his peers, but his broad smile and relaxed manner make it easy for him to make connections. “I find it fun to talk and learn something new about a person,” says Welker. His genuine interest in other people – especially students – led him to apply to be the student representative to the University of Missouri Board of Curators.

FYRE program advances freshman’s STEM passion
