Photo contest to celebrate S&T landmark
It’s been a decade since the Millennium Arch was installed on the lawn of Missouri University of Science and Technology’s Castleman Hall. To commemorate the event, a contest is being held for the best photographs of the landmark, with $500 in prizes to be awarded in each of four categories. The contest is sponsored by the Missouri S&T Campus Art Committee and the New York Foundation for the Arts.

Missouri University of Science and Technology’s department of arts, languages and philosophy, and Arts Rolla! will host a tribute to Dr. W. Nicholas Knight, professor emeritus of English and technical communication at S&T. Poet and printer Clarence Wolfshohl will combine two of his favorite interests, Thomas Hart Benton and the country of Brazil, in a poetry reading titled, “Tom Benton Floats the Amazon,” at Missouri S&T. The reading will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, in Room 138 Castleman Hall, and is free and open to the public.

The work of Dr. James Bogan is featured in the April issue of New Letters, a literary magazine that is currently celebrating its 75th year of existence. Bogan is a Curators’ Professor of art history and film at Missouri University of Science and Technology.

The Missouri S&T University and Community Symphony Orchestra and the Missouri S&T Chamber Orchestra will perform their winter holiday concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, in Leach Theater of Castleman Hall, 10th and Main streets in Rolla. The orchestra will be conducted by Dr. Robert J. Cesario, assistant professor of arts, languages and philosophy.
