Dawson Jeffers’ interest in making things began as an 8th grader in Troy, Missouri, when he attended a robotics competition, where, as he recalls, “kids were operating robots that could pick up balls and throw them.” In high school, he began making and selling his own products – from wallets made of duct tape to 3D-printed name plates. Today as a student at Missouri S&T, Jeffers is taking his interest in product development and entrepreneurship to new levels.
Read More »The goal of developing new explosives is often to enhance their performance by increasing key metrics such as pressure and velocity of detonation while simultaneously decreasing their ability to be initiated, in order to reduce the likelihood of accidental initiation. Reducing that likelihood makes their manufacture, storage and transport safer. With the aim of helping make those processes safer, a Missouri S&T student is working with a leading explosives engineering expert to evaluate the sensitivity of explosives.

Elrod, who joined the S&T faculty in 2008, is associate professor of business and information technology.
