Missouri University of Science and Technology will be recognized in two venues this month as one of 20 colleges and universities nationwide that exemplify the mission of the American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) to promote education, research and community involvement on sustainability issues.

Dr. Joel Burken, professor of civil and environmental engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology, has been named director of the Environmental Research Center at Missouri S&T. The appointment takes effect April 1.
Update: 9 a.m. CDT Thursday, March 21, 2013: A memorial service to honor the memory of Kaitlin D. Brown will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, at the Southwestern Bell Cultural Center, 1207 N. Elm St., on the Missouri University of Science and Technology campus in Rolla. A candlelight vigil will follow at the Puck on campus. Missouri S&T students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend both events. The joint investigation by Rolla and Missouri S&T police into the cause of her death is continuing.

“Tornado Alley,” a 22-minute 3D film about the science behind tornadoes and storm-chasing, will be shown Tuesday, March 5, at the Havener Center on the Missouri University of Science and Technology campus as part of a communitywide outreach on severe weather safety.
