Andrew Hinkle, a Ph.D. student in aerospace engineering at Missouri S&T, is part of a select group of graduate students across the U.S. to receive a NASA Space Technology Research Fellowship (NSTRF). Through the award, Hinkle plans to help advance the agency’s understanding of how particle flows such as Martian dust storms could affect spacecraft landings.

Landers named Curators’ Distinguished Professor at Missouri S&T

Dr. Robert Landers, professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology, has been named Curators’ Distinguished Professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering. Landers will be officially recognized during Missouri S&T’s commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 12. The University of Missouri System Board of Curators bestows the honorary title upon outstanding scholars with established reputations in the field of study. Landers is being recognized for his work in the automation and control of manufacturing processes.

Scottie Thomas, a senior in chemical engineering from Cape Girardeau, Mo., came to Missouri S&T with a penchant for leadership honed in high school, where he was a football captain and National Honor Society member.
Four years later, as he prepares to graduate in May and work as a process design engineer for Phillips 66, Thomas has grown into a campus leader who immersed himself in university life, from working in an aerospace engineering research lab to his current role as student body president.
