S&T grad to blog from space

NASA astronaut Sandra Magnus, a Missouri University of Science and Technology graduate, is scheduled to launch into orbit aboard Space Shuttle Endeavour on Nov. 14. The space shuttle will drop Magnus off at the International Space Station for a four-month stay, during which time she will be contributing to a Missouri S&T blog aimed at getting more kids interested in science.

A comedic ride through American history to be performed at S&T

Tickets remain for the Reduced Shakespeare Company’s “The Complete History of America (abridged),” a special event that will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, in Leach Theatre of Castleman Hall on the Missouri S&T campus, 10th and Main streets in Rolla. Tickets are $28 for adults, $18 for youth and $8 for Missouri S&T students. S&T students can charge admission to student accounts.

‘J.B.’ to be presented by S&T students

Missouri S&T goes underground for Halloween

As Halloween is fast approaching, mining engineering students at Missouri University of Science and Technology are preparing for their 11th annual Haunted Mine. Tours of the spooky underground mine will be held from 6 pm. to 11:30 p.m. on Oct. 24-25, Oct. 30, and Nov. 1. On Friday, Oct. 31, the mine will be open from 5 p.m. until midnight.

Metal analyzer improves strength of metals and safety of troops

Steel castings used in critical military applications can now be quickly analyzed to help improve the metal’s strength and performance thanks to researchers at Missouri S&T. The university recently purchased a metal analyzer that tests for non-metallic particles, called inclusions. Inclusions can reduce the durability of a metal part, which could lead to a shortened part lifespan in critical components, such as armor and canons.
