S&T students are becoming real rocket scientists

Two years ago, a group of students from Missouri University of Science and Technology were involved in an informal rocketry challenge with some would-be rocket scientists from Iowa State University. The Iowa State program didn’t get off the ground that year, but the Missouri S&T students built a 12-foot-tall rocket that reached speeds approaching 1,000 mph and a height of 19,000 feet.

S&T’s nuclear engineering program selected to receive annual gift of $50,000

Missouri S&T was one of five universities selected by Exelon Nuclear to receive a gift of $50,000 per year from the company. The U.S. Department of Energy will begin matching the gift through the Nuclear Power Engineering Education Matching Grant Program next year.

A new name and record student enrollment

Missouri S&T welcomes one of its largest and most talented classes ever this fall. Enrollment on the first day of classes is expected to be 6,224, a 4 percent increase over last year’s figure of 5,986, says registrar Laura Stoll. Total enrollment is 46 percent larger than the fall of 2000, when the university opened with 4,256 students.
