Missouri S&T awards Chancellor’s Scholarships

Missouri University of Science and Technology awarded Chancellor’s Scholarships to 18 high school seniors for the 2017-2018 academic year. To qualify for the scholarship, students must be Missouri residents, have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.75 or rank in the upper 10 percent of their high school graduation class and have ACT composite scores of 31 or better. The students also must complete a 750-word essay and participate in an on-campus interview.

Wound care technology invented at S&T hits marketplace

A glass-based wound care product that emerged from research by a doctoral student at Missouri University of Science and Technology has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for human use and is now available on the commercial market. Steve Jung laid the groundwork for the Mirragen Advanced Wound Matrix while earning a master’s degree in ceramic engineering and a Ph.D. in materials science and engineering at Missouri S&T. Jung is now chief technology officer at Mo-Sci Corp., a Rolla specialty glass manufacturer that continued the product’s development in collaboration with ETS Wound Care, also of Rolla.

Missouri S&T students host 24-hour artificial intelligence coding competition

Sleep will be at a premium this weekend at Missouri University of Science and Technology as a computer science student group hosts a 24-hour artificial intelligence coding competition. The twice-annual MegaMiner event requires participants to write AI code for a computer game created by the Association of Computing Machinery students. Missouri S&T has hosted the competition, which is considered one of the largest in the Midwest, since 2007.
