Missouri S&T’s first virtual camp to finish with satellite launches
Missouri S&T’s first virtual summer camp will conclude with a launch event to watch more than a dozen camper-built small satellites travel 100,000 feet into the air on-board a high-altitude balloon. Campers will track the flight in August and receive images and data captured by the satellites from the edge of space.

Donna Jennings, a doctoral student in aerospace engineering at Missouri S&T, has received a 2020 Amelia Earhart Fellowship from Zonta International Foundation in recognition of her research into satellite exploration of deep space.

Jill Davis of Republic, Missouri, a doctoral student in aerospace engineering at Missouri S&T, has received the U.S. Department of Defense’s Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship to support her research on small satellites for deep space.

Dr. David Bayless returns to Missouri S&T on Jan. 1, 2021, as the new chair of mechanical and aerospace engineering. A 1987 Missouri S&T mechanical engineering graduate, Bayless is the graduate chair of mechanical engineering and Gerald Loehr Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.

Adam Stumpf, ME’10, was focused on making bourbon, whiskey and vodka at his craft distillery when the coronavirus began to sweep across the United States.
