While driving to Rolla to visit Missouri S&T, Ean Buffington, now 22, received an email notifying him that he’d received a national Air Force ROTC scholarship covering all tuition plus a stipend for books and living expenses. Last month, four years after that campus visit, Buffington was named one of 15 finalists for the ROTC All-Americans for 2021.

Dr. Frank Liou named to the College of Fellows of SME

Dr. Frank Liou, the Michael and Joyce Bytnar Professor and director of manufacturing engineering at Missouri S&T, has been named to the College of Fellows of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) and will be honored at the 2021 SME Fall Gala on Nov. 10.  The SME fellows honor was established in 1986 to recognize outstanding contributions to the social, technological and educational aspects of the manufacturing profession. Only those with 20 or more years of dedicated service can receive this honor.

Missouri S&T offers summer research for students from HBCUs

Eight students from historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) participated in a summer program at Missouri S&T that is designed to encourage engineering students from underrepresented groups to pursue graduate studies. This year, students in Missouri S&T’s Summer Engineering Research Academy (SERA) visited Rolla from Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama, Tennessee State University in Nashville and Morgan State University in Baltimore.
