A team of Missouri University of Science and Technology students helped bring a new waterjet cutting machine to campus — and the machine will help propel research into expanding areas and show new uses for the technology.
During the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) Sept. 12-17 in Chicago and as part of the Smartforce Student Summit Build It! Challenge, sponsored by WARDJet, student teams competed against industry professionals. WARDJet’s build-off competition offered teams a chance to win a waterjet cutting machine.

Read More »The Missouri Mine Rescue Association, in conjunction with Missouri University of Science and Technology, will host its 34th Annual Mine Rescue Competition designed to simulate a mine emergency Monday, Oct. 3 through Thursday, Oct. 6 at the Missouri S&T Experimental Mine.
Missouri S&T teams will compete with teams from industry, such as Doe Run, Vulcan Materials Co. and Georgia-Pacific Gypsum. There are 16 teams competing.

Read More »Missouri University of Science and Technology won the Southern Regional Mine Rescue Competition May 3-5 in New Iberia, Louisiana.
Missouri S&T’s Gold Team finished first overall after placing first in the smoke chamber, first aid and on the field and second place in team tech. The Missouri S&T Black Team finished ninth out of 16 teams.
The competition involves a simulated mine disaster that is set up and monitored by the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration. In addition to the rescue simulation, other events include first aid, gas testing and maintaining a complex self-contained breathing apparatus. Written exams are also administered.
Read More »The Missouri University of Science and Technology women’s mucking team won the 38th Intercollegiate Mining Competition held March 30 through April 3, the team’s third consecutive international title.
The students traveled nearly 1,500 miles to Butte, Montana, to defend their title in events based on old-fashioned mining techniques generally known as “mucking.” Missouri S&T men’s Team A finished in fifth place among 15 teams, and the men’s Team B was 14th.

Missouri University of Science and Technology is the organizer of the American Society of Civil Engineer’s Aerospace Division bi-annual Earth and Space Conference April 11-15 in Orlando, Florida.
The event for the planetary surface construction community attracts a multi-disciplinary audience from around the world. Over 130 papers were peer reviewed for acceptance, presentation and inclusion into the online proceedings. Conference attendees will hear high-quality presentations and will have opportunities to network with experts and leaders in construction, civil engineering, architecture, aerospace engineering, in-situ resource utilization, planetary science and other fields.
Read More »A group of Missouri University of Science and Technology students has traveled nearly 1,500 miles to defend a world championship title in events based on old-fashioned mining techniques generally known as “mucking.” The students are competing in the 38th Intercollegiate Mining Competition held Wednesday, March 30, through Sunday, April 3, at Montana Tech of the University of Montana in Butte, Montana.
Missouri S&T sent three teams to compete against over 15 teams from the United States, Australia, England and Brazil in events based on mining techniques used in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Students are competing in seven timed events: gold panning, surveying, hand-mucking, hand-steeling, track-standing, Swede sawing and jackleg drilling. Missouri S&T’s women’s team won the international competition last year in Kalgoorlie, Australia.
