Researchers use artificial intelligence to improve efficiency in kidney transplant network
Tens of thousands of people are on the kidney transplant waiting list. Less than a third of them will receive a kidney this year, and thousands of kidneys are discarded because matches are not made while the donor kidney is viable. Researchers at Missouri S&T are using artificial intelligence to improve workflow efficiency within the transplant network to speed up the process and give patients a better chance of receiving a transplant.

Missouri S&T researcher wins Google Faculty Research Award
As electronic devices become more complex, the printed circuit boards (PCBs) they use need more components, including capacitors that prevent voltage fluctuations. Researchers say there is a gap between the theoretical understanding of the physics of designing and placing the capacitors and how to leverage that understanding to create the real product. As COVID-19 sweeps across the U.S. and the world, people have taken to social media with concerns, questions and opinions. Researchers at Missouri University of Science and Technology are analyzing tens of millions of posts on Twitter in real time to show how attitudes toward the disease have changed. The researchers are designing machine learning and natural language processing techniques for the study. They say the project is distinctive in that it measures topics of concern, subjectivity, social distancing and public sentiment rather than predicting the spread of infection.
