Dr. Sarah Hercula: Learning with linguistics

Dr. Sarah Hercula, a linguistics researcher at Missouri S&T, blends several fields in her work. One of her current projects, which focuses on users’ perceptions of virtual assistants’ accented voice settings, combines elements of English and psychology. But she says that is the whole point of the field, as linguistics is a social science with humanistic elements.

Breakfast Cereal: A Global History by Dr. Kathryn Cornell Dolan examines the entirety of cereal, from the beginning of agricultural history in the Fertile Crescent to modern sugary snacks.

New book ‘Roadhouse Justice’ focuses on true crime

In his latest book, Roadhouse Justice: Hattie Lee Barnes and the Killing of a White Man in 1950s Mississippi, historian Trent Brown weaves a story of injustice, civil rights and the southern legal system. This is Brown’s second book about true crime in the South, and he says the story picks up right where his previous book left off.
