Missouri S&T researcher wins Google Faculty Research Award

Posted by on April 28, 2020

As electronic devices become more complex, the printed circuit boards (PCBs) they use need more components, including capacitors that prevent voltage fluctuations. Researchers say there is a gap between the theoretical understanding of the physics of designing and placing the capacitors and how to leverage that understanding to create the real product. That gap is the focus of research by Dr. Chulsoon Hwang of Missouri University of Science and Technology, and Google has recognized his work with a highly competitive Faculty Research Award.

Researchers at Missouri S&T use social media to study COVID-19

Posted by on April 6, 2020

As COVID-19 sweeps across the U.S. and the world, people have taken to social media with concerns, questions and opinions. Researchers at Missouri University of Science and Technology are analyzing tens of millions of posts on Twitter in real time to show how attitudes toward the disease have changed. The researchers are designing machine learning and natural language processing techniques for the study. They say the project is distinctive in that it measures topics of concern, subjectivity, social distancing and public sentiment rather than predicting the spread of infection.

Missouri S&T researchers develop faster, cleaner, less expensive chemical reaction process

Posted by on February 6, 2020

A process developed by researchers at Missouri S&T could lead to cleaner, less expensive and more efficient production of pharmaceuticals, biomass fuels and other products that are made through chemical reactions. The research project is the first time the combined reaction-separation process has been performed without the use of metals or solvents. The research was published and highlighted with cover art in the journal Reaction Chemistry and Engineering, a publication of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
