A UMR professor and student will receive research awards from the American Ceramic Society during the fall 2004 meeting of the Glass and Optical Materials Division of the American Ceramic Society to be held Nov. 7-12 in Cocoa Beach, Fla.

Toby Case of Huntsville, Ala., a teaching assistant in the University of Missouri Rolla’s electrical and computer engineering department, was named the 2004 Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant by UMR Parents’ Association.

Joyce Williams of Fenton, Mo., the 2004 Parent of the Year at the University of Missouri-Rolla, provides inspiration and encouragement to her son, Charles Williams, a senior in physics at UMR.

UMR was recently ranked 22 among 357 campuses for entrepreneurship in a survey conducted by Forbes magazine and the Princeton Review.

A May 2004 graduate of UMR led a team of UMR researchers who will receive an E-Learn 2004 Outstanding Paper Award from the Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education during the World Conference on E-Learning in Corporate, Government, Healthcare and Higher Education to be held Nov. 1-5 in Washington, D.C.

Students at UMR placed first and second in the Black Box Competition — where students try to figure out what is inside without looking — which was sponsored by the St. Louis section of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and (IEEE) held Saturday, Oct. 23., on UMR’s campus.
