Painting donated to honor Spreng
A local artist recently donated a painting to Missouri University of Science and Technology to honor longtime professor Dr. Alfred C. Spreng, who died on Oct. 19. The professor emeritus of geology retired in 1985 after teaching at Missouri S&T for more than 35 years.

Record number of S&T students, staff to participate in day of service Jan. 21
Nearly 200 students and staff members from Missouri University of Science and Technology will volunteer throughout the local community on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, Jan. 21, as part of a national day of service. The number of participants is more than double previous years’ numbers.

Xiaoqing (Frank) Liu named interim chair of computer science at S&T
Dr. Xiaoqing (Frank) Liu, professor of computer science at Missouri University of Science and Technology, has been named interim chair of the Missouri S&T computer science department. The position takes effect Jan. 1, 2013. Dr. Jennifer Leopold, associate professor of computer science, will serve as interim graduate coordinator.
