Missouri University of Science and Technology’s engineering management systems engineering program (EMSE) department has been approved as a Quality Training Provider (QTP) by the Institute of Industrial Engineers, allowing students to test for Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
Six Sigma is focused on reducing variation in processes, products and services, says Dr. Elizabeth Cudney, associate professor of engineering management systems engineering at Missouri S&T and director of the Design Engineering Center. Although it started in the 1980s in manufacturing, it is widely used in healthcare, pharmaceuticals and service industries. With a focus on improving processes, it can be used in any industry.
