For the third consecutive year, the University of Missouri-Rolla will close fall admissions to its nationally recognized freshman engineering program.

The University of Missouri-Rolla Robotics Team is busy preparing for the Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition, which will be held June 11-13 in Traverse City, Mich. But the team s robot, perched on a three-wheel-drive vehicle, will do all of the thinking and steering once the competition starts.

Kerrie Weinkein of Joplin, Mo., a junior in civil engineering at the University of Missouri-Rolla, was picked to receive a $2,500 award from the National Society of Professional Engineers. She is the first person to receive the William R. Kimel Engineering Scholarship.

Students between the ages of 10 and 20 can take a behind-the-scenes look at everything from robots and explosives to geology and spaceships at summer camps and programs to be held this summer on the University of Missouri-Rolla campus.

Boeing Corp. has donated $250,000 to the University of Missouri-Rolla to support scholarships for women, minorities and financially disadvantaged students. The donation from Boeing, which is the largest employer of UMR graduates, will also help support the UMR Student Design Center, the electrical and computer engineering departments, and minority student associations on campus.

Nine University of Missouri-Rolla employees were honored Wednesday, June 1, for their contributions to the campus during UMR Staff Recognition Day ceremonies on campus.
