Missouri S&T to host History Day contest
Missouri S&T will host the Missouri Region 8 History Day contest Friday, Feb. 22, at the Havener Center. More than 120 students from schools in a seven-county area of the state will participate. This year’s theme is “Triumph and Tragedy in History.”

Dr. John C. McManus, Curators’ Distinguished Professor of history and political science at Missouri S&T and one of the nation’s most distinguished military historians, has won the Thomas Fleming Award for Outstanding Military History Writing for his upcoming journal article on Gen. Douglas MacArthur’s stealth campaign for the 1944 Republican presidential nomination. A $5,000 cash prize accompanies the award.

Weiner Distinguished Visiting Professor of Humanities at Missouri S&T for the upcoming academic year. The visiting professorship was established in 1999 by an estate gift.
