U.S. News: Missouri S&T remains state’s top public grad school for engineering

Missouri S&T rose in the national rankings again this year, remaining the state’s top public graduate school for engineering and placing among the nation’s best, according to the U.S. News & World Report rankings released Tuesday, April 7.

“Graduate students who come to Missouri S&T have opportunities to learn from some of the world’s top researchers and play direct roles in projects that address complex global challenges,” says Dr. David Borrok, vice provost and dean of S&T’s College of Engineering and Computing. “Our commitment to providing the tools and support students need to conduct this level of research is reflected in our rankings and demonstrates the strength of our programs.”

The university rose to No. 47 (tied) nationally among public universities — two spots higher than last year. Among both public and private universities, S&T tied for No. 76, which was five places higher than 2025.

Four of S&T’s programs climbed in the overall national rankings when compared to last year, including:

  • Computer engineering, which rose to No. 69 from No. 85
  • Chemical engineering, which rose to No. 78 from No. 94
  • Environmental engineering, which rose to No. 46 from No. 54
  • Petroleum engineering, which rose to No. 14 from No. 16

Other S&T engineering programs with national rankings include aerospace engineering (44), biomedical engineering (114), civil engineering (48), electrical engineering (74), materials science and engineering (62), mechanical engineering (64), nuclear engineering (21) and systems engineering (58).
