Dr. Daryl Beetner, professor of electrical engineering and director of Missouri S&T’s Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Laboratory, has been named a Curators’ Distinguished Professor.

The University of Missouri Board of Curators awards this title to outstanding faculty members with established reputations in their field of study.

Beetner joined Missouri S&T in 1998 as an assistant professor, and he was promoted to associate professor in 2004 and professor in 2010.

He was named chair of electrical and computer engineering at S&T in 2014 and held this position until 2020 when he became director of both S&T’s EMC Laboratory and the Center for Electromagnetic Compatibility — a National Science Foundation (NSF) Industry/University Cooperative Research Center.

Missouri S&T’s EMC Lab is recognized internationally as a leader in electromagnetic compatibility research, and the Center for EMC is the largest of the more than 70 such centers funded by NSF.

Beetner has authored over 200 peer-reviewed papers, with many winning awards in journals and conferences. He holds five patents or invention disclosures for his research on electromagnetic immunity and emissions from the integrated-circuit level up to complete systems.

He is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and on the EMC Society Board of Directors.

Beetner earned a doctorate and a master’s degree, both in electrical engineering, from Washington University in St. Louis. His bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering is from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.
