Dr. Douglas Ludlow, a professor in Missouri S&T’s Linda and Bipin Doshi Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, has been elected a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).
“This is an honor that is very special to me,” says Ludlow, who has been a member of AIChE since 1982. “It means so much to have my colleagues and friends elect me and recognize my contributions to the field of chemical engineering.”
Fellow is AIChE’s highest level of membership and honors significant professional accomplishments and contributions.
Ludlow has over four decades of experience in the chemical engineering field. He earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Brigham Young University in 1982 and then worked in industry for about a year before pursuing graduate studies in chemical engineering at Arizona State University, where he earned a Ph.D. in 1986.
Ludlow next served as a professor and later chair of chemical engineering at the University of North Dakota (UND) for 10 years before joining the Missouri S&T faculty in 1996.
At S&T, he chaired chemical and biochemical engineering twice, and he is a former director of freshman engineering.
His work has taken him around the globe, including to The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel, where he was a Fulbright research professor from 1992 to 1993, and to Sapienza University of Rome, where he served as a visiting professor as part of a NATO fellows program in 1995.
Ludlow’s past honors include the Sigma Xi Faculty Award for Outstanding Scientific Research, the Engineering Foundation Research Initiation Award, UND’s Elwyn F. Chandler Award and the Omega Xi Epsilon Outstanding Professor Award.
He has won multiple university awards at S&T for his work as a professor and advisor. Last year, he was named S&T’s Student Choice Instructor of the Year for chemical and biochemical engineering.
