The Missouri State Fair will be held Aug. 10-20 in Sedalia, and Missouri S&T invites all fair attendees to experience the best of the university through live demonstrations, virtual reality and more. Look for the Missouri S&T signs near the Grandstand across from the MO-AG Theatre and Farm Bureau buildings. Get a map and detailed schedule at statefair.mst.edu.

Missouri S&T’s sponsored area will open each day at 9 a.m. and feature daily demonstrations at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Demonstrations include fire art, Spot the Robodog, illusions and make-your-own-earthquake. Fair goers can participate in activities throughout the day, such as a planetarium, virtual reality, yard games, 3D printing and robots. Visitors can also enter to win prizes.

The university’s STEM Mobile will be parked in the area. The new vehicle brings hands-on educational activities to sites throughout the state. STEM is an acronym for science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

“What better way to bring STEM outreach to Missourians than at the state fair?” says Courtney Jones, director of the Kummer Center for STEM Education. “We’ll have something for people of all ages. Drop by to say hi and have some fun while learning. Missouri S&T is the state’s premier technological research university and we’re looking forward to showcasing what we offer.”

S&T representatives attending the fair will include professors, students and employees from admissions, alumni affairs, marketing and communications, and the STEM center. Participating academic departments include biological sciences; chemistry; the Doshi Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering; geosciences and geological and petroleum engineering; materials science and engineering; mechanical and aerospace engineering; mining and explosives engineering; nuclear engineering and radiation science; physics; and psychological science.
