Michael Aguilar, president and co-founder of Innocorp Ltd., was inducted into the Missouri University of Science and Technology Academy of Computer Science during the group’s banquet and induction ceremony at Sybill’s in St. James, Missouri, on Oct. 16.

The academy honors outstanding computer scientists for their contributions to the profession and their involvement with Missouri S&T students and faculty. The academy also serves as an advisory group to the computer science department.

Aguilar earned a bachelor of science degree in computer science from Missouri S&T in 1976. He earned an MBA from St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa, in 1988 and in 2009, he began pursuing a Ph.D. in mass communication from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Inspired by a car crash involving a drunk driver, in 1996 Aguilar co-founded Innocorp and developed Fatal Vision Impairment Simulation Goggles, which cause the wearer to experience the impairing effects of alcohol on balance and reaction time, while retaining sober judgment. Aguilar led Innocorp’s transition from a startup company, making and distributing goggles from his dining room table, to an internationally recognized firm with clients in more than 70 countries.

In 2005, Aguilar partnered with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to develop a new impaired riding prevention campaign for motorcyclists called Project Green-Yellow-Red (GYR). In 2009, Aguilar and the Blue Knights of Wisconsin Chapter XVIII teamed up to develop and promote a new motorcycle safety initiative called “5=Zero” in Wisconsin working with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

Aguilar and his wife, Deb, have two grown children and a granddaughter. They live in Verona, Wisconsin.
