The Solar House Team, a student design team at Missouri University of Science and Technology, is hosting a night of music and drinks on summer solstice at the Public House Brewing Co. to raise awareness about the team and its projects.
“Solarfest” begins at 6 p.m. Friday, June 21, at the Public House, located at 600 N. Pine St. in Rolla. The event will feature live music from several bands, a silent auction, wines from St. James Winery, a 50/50 raffle and barbeque dinner.
Proceeds from the event will support the team in its upcoming Solar Decathlon competition in Irvine, Calif. There, the team will construct and display the 2013 solar house. The S&T Solar House Team is the only competitor from Missouri and one of only two competitors from the Midwest. The Public House will donate $1 from each drink purchase to the team.
General admission tickets for the performances are $10. Premium admission tickets are $20 and include a meal, one drink ticket and five raffle tickets. Tickets can be purchased at the Public House, at University Book and Supply and at Kent Jewelry. All ticket proceeds will be donated to the team.
“We want the community to know all about us and be more involved with the project, not just drive by it,” explains Emily Vandivert, the Solar House Team Leader. “Plus, we have some great items to auction off thanks to our donors and sponsors.”
