Missouri S&T launches innovation ecosystem design initiative

Dr. Venkat Allada, professor of engineering management and systems engineering, has been named executive director of the Innovation Ecosystem Design Initiative, a one-year project organized and launched by the Kummer College of Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Economic Development at Missouri University of Science and Technology. Allada’s appointment took effect July 1.

Dr. David Enke, Curators’ Distinguished Teaching Professor of engineering management and systems engineering, has been named interim associate dean of the Kummer College of Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Economic Development at Missouri University of Science and Technology. Enke’s appointment will take effect June 1.

S&T unveils active learning classroom

Thanks to faculty know-how supported by S&T benefactors, students are learning the basics of project management in an environment that eschews a traditional classroom aesthetic for a space that inspires collaboration. Designed in accordance with the principles of active learning, the Fritzmeyer Family Active Learning Classroom, located in Room 104 of the Engineering Management Building, opened at the beginning of the fall 2023 semester.

James D. Sterling named vice provost and founding dean of Missouri S&T’s Kummer College

Dr. James D. Sterling, whose teaching and research interests include applied entrepreneurship and bioengineering, has been named vice provost and founding dean of the Kummer College of Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Economic Development at Missouri University of Science and Technology. Sterling is a professor in the Henry E. Riggs School of Applied Life Sciences at the Keck Graduate Institute (KGI) in Claremont, California, which is a member of the Claremont University Consortium.

Missouri S&T faculty collaborate to teach value-driven engineering design

Two components critical to innovation that are often taught and practiced separately were recently integrated in an introductory engineering design course that’s required for all first-year engineering and computer science students at Missouri S&T. The third week of the course was taught by economics faculty, who introduced value-driven engineering design and economic integration.

Missouri S&T starts school year with record percentage of women students, new college

Missouri S&T began classes on Monday, Aug. 22, with the highest percentage of women students in history. The percentage of female students on the first day of classes is 24.2%, which surpasses the previous record percentage of 23.9%, set in 2016 and 2021.
