Dr. Rachel Kohman has been named assistant dean of entrepreneurship education in the Kummer College of Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Economic Development at Missouri University of Science and Technology.
Dr. Jim Sterling, vice provost and dean of the Kummer College, says the new title is commensurate with Kohman’s leadership and focus on education.
“The benefactors of our college, Fred and June Kummer, shared a keen interest in education and providing opportunities for STEM students through their transformative gift to Missouri S&T,” Sterling says. “Dr. Kohman ensures that participants in Kummer Student Programs receive a stellar education in entrepreneurial pursuits in addition to their academic major. Not only that, but she has provided numerous opportunities for students throughout the university to participate in entrepreneurial programming and activities.”
Kohman joined the university in 2021 as the director of Kummer Student Programs. She designed and implemented the Kummer Vanguard Scholars Program, which provides scholarships and experiential learning opportunities for up to 350 undergraduate STEM scholars each year. She oversees the Kummer Innovation and Entrepreneurship Doctoral Fellows program and helps guide innovation-minded Ph.D. students.
Kohman also collaborated on a major redesign of the university’s longstanding Freshman Engineering 1100 course, inspired by the Kummer Vanguard Scholars program. More recently, she created S&T’s Badges of Entrepreneurial Excellence program, which recognizes the achievements of students beyond the classroom. The program is open to all S&T students, regardless of academic major, and launched this semester.
“I am excited to continue strengthening and supporting the opportunities for students and the S&T community to engage in entrepreneurial-minded pursuits,” says Kohman. “I am grateful to work with so many incredible collaborators from faculty and staff to industry partners and alumni who are aligned in our passion to empower individuals and drive innovation.”
Prior to joining Missouri S&T, Kohman served as the senior director of the Center for Student Involvement at Emporia State University in Kansas. Kohman holds a Doctor of Education degree in higher education administration from the University of Wyoming, Laramie. She earned a master’s degree in counseling and college student development from Kansas State University, and bachelor’s degrees in business and economics from Bethany College in Kansas.
