Dr. David Enke, Curators’ Distinguished Teaching Professor of engineering management and systems engineering (EMSE), has been named interim associate dean of the Kummer College of Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Economic Development at Missouri University of Science and Technology. Enke’s appointment will take effect June 1.
In his new role, Enke will work closely with Dr. Jim Sterling, who will become vice provost and dean of the Kummer College June 1, and the college’s faculty on professional accreditation, funded and collaborative research activities, and the development and implementation of an innovative curriculum. He will also interact with employers, academy and industry advisors, alumni, benefactors and other members of the S&T community.
“I am grateful to Dr. Enke for his outstanding leadership of the EMSE department, and I look forward to working with him as we focus on student success while also growing and crafting the culture of Kummer College to serve as a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship,” says Sterling.
Enke says he looks forward to helping lead the college through what he considers a pivotal time in its evolution.
“I am honored to have this opportunity to work with Dr. Sterling and the Kummer College faculty and staff as we grow the academic and research landscape of the college,” says Enke. “I’m also looking forward to supporting the college’s interdisciplinary and collaborative spirit of innovation, entrepreneurship and economic development.”
Enke served on the S&T faculty from 2000 to 2007 and returned in 2012 as professor and chair of the EMSE department. After returning to full-time teaching, Enke was appointed interim department chair in July 2022, a role that will be filled by Dr. Amuary Lendasse when he joins S&T Aug 1.
Enke has been honored with an award for best journal article from the Engineering Management Journal, and is the recipient of seven research conference paper awards and 12 campus awards for teaching excellence. He has published more than 30 journal articles, three book chapters and numerous conference proceedings. He has also co-edited five editions of Intelligent Engineering Systems Through Artificial Neural Networks. He is the founder of the Laboratory for Investment and Financial Engineering and a member of the Intelligent Systems Center. He is an area editor focusing on computational intelligence and risk management for the journal The Engineering Economist.
Enke earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Missouri S&T in 1990. He earned master’s and doctorate degrees in engineering management from S&T in 1994 and 1997, respectively. He worked for McDonell Douglas Corp. (Boeing) for six years prior to starting his graduate studies.
