The Haunted Mine at Missouri S&T will operate an additional day this Halloween season. Mining engineering student volunteers will be on hand to frighten folks on Friday, Nov. 1, in addition to Halloween, Thursday, Oct. 31.

Caterpillar donates hydraulic excavator to S&T’s Experimental Mine
The Experimental Mine Facility at Missouri S&T has a new Cat 316E hydraulic excavator, thanks to Fabick CAT of Fenton, Mo., and Caterpillar Global Mining. The companies presented the excavator, valued at $250,000, to the university at a ceremony on Sept. 26, at Missouri S&T’s Experimental Mine.

S&T selected to lead effort to improve sustainability in nation’s transportation
Missouri S&T has been selected to lead a consortium of four universities sharing in a 2013 University Transportation Centers (UTC) tier 1 grant. This program was authorized by Congress under the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21). The center’s research will focus on developing the next generation of cement-based construction materials.

Popularly known as the festival of lights, Diwali represents the triumph of good over evil. The annual event is sponsored by Missouri S&T’s India Association, an Indian student organization.

Missouri S&T to receive $4.3 million from DOE SunShot Initiative
Missouri University of Science and Technology will receive $4.3 million over the next five years from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) SunShot Initiative to develop power engineering curriculum and launch the Mid-America Regional Microgrid Education and Training Consortium (MARMET).

All ghosts, witches, superheroes and princesses are invited to visit Missouri S&T for a Halloween Trunk-Or-Treat. Local area children can trick-or-treat without the fear of traffic as they receive candy from recognized S&T student organizations. The annual Halloween Trunk-Or-Treat takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, in the Residential College parking lot next to the Dairy Queen on University Drive.
