Tracy Primich, director of the Sarah Shannon Science and Engineering Library at Vanderbilt University, has been named director of library and learning resources at Missouri University of Science and Technology’s Curtis Laws Wilson Library. Her appointment takes effect Nov. 1.
Primich takes over for Maggie Trish, assistant director for library technical services, who was appointed interim director when former director Andy Stewart retired in August 2012.
“Tracy Primich brings a wealth of experience in information science to Missouri S&T,” says Dr. Warren K. Wray, Missouri S&T provost. “Her extensive experience in library science, both in industry and in higher education, makes her an ideal person to lead Curtis Laws Wilson Library. I look forward to working with her.”
“I look forward to meeting the students and faculty of Missouri S&T,” says Primich. “I am excited to be part of the S&T community, and to participate in this time of rapid change in libraries.”
Primich has served as director of the Sarah Shannon Stevenson Science and Engineering Library at Vanderbilt University since 2006. Prior to that, she served as co-owner, business manager and financial officer for an IT consulting business in Chelsea, Mich., from 1996 to 2006. Primich also spent 11 years working for Ford Motor Co. She began as a reference librarian, then was promoted to group leader of the research library in 1997, and to supervisor in 2000.
Primich served as chemistry librarian at the University of Michigan from 1991 to 1995 and as the librarian at Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research from 1989 to 1991.
Primich is a member of the Special Libraries Association, the American Chemical Society and the American Society for Engineering Education and she serves on the editorial board of the journal Science and Technology Libraries. She has presented numerous talks and authored several publications on library science and information science.
Primich earned a master of library science degree from the Indiana University School of Library and Information Science in 1989, a master of arts in history from Indiana University Graduate School in 1989 and a bachelor of arts degree in chemistry and Russian from Bucknell University in 1986.
