S&T to host lecture on uncertainty quantification

Learn how mathematics can be used to estimate uncertainty in physical and biological systems, like weather patterns, in a lecture to be held this month at Missouri S&T. Dr. Ralph C. Smith, professor of mathematics at North Carolina State University, will present the lecture, titled “Uncertainty quantification for physical and biological models,” at 4:15 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, in Room G-5 of the Rolla Building.

Vehicle strikes Residential College 1, no injuries

The northeast corner of Residential College 1 at Missouri S&T was struck by a vehicle early Sunday morning (Nov. 3, 2013), causing damage to two trees, adjacent landscaping and the corner of the building. No one was injured.

Fall jazz concert to be performed at S&T

Missouri S&T’s Jazz Band will present its fall concert at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, in Leach Theatre of Castleman Hall, 10th and Main streets in Rolla. The concert will feature music made popular by Count Basie, Frank Sinatra, Gordon Goodwin, Stan Kenton and Bob Mintzer.

S&T faculty to receive excellence awards

Four Missouri S&T faculty members will receive Faculty Excellence Awards at a ceremony scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014. The awards are given annually to recognize excellence in teaching, research and service. Each award winner will receive a $3,000 stipend funded by industry and alumni contributions.

Tinker Bell to show at Leach Theatre

It is autumn in Rolla and also in Pixie Hollow. For the fairies, that means it is time to collect Pixie dust, but for area families it means “Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure,” the third film in the 2013-2014 Leach Theatre Family Film Series, is showing at Missouri University of Science and Technology. The film begins at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at Leach Theatre in Missouri S&T’s Castleman Hall, 10thand Main streets in Rolla, Mo. Tickets are $3 each and will be available for purchase at the Leach Theatre Box Office at 10 a.m. the day of show.

NASA scientist to guest lecture at S&T

Former NASA scientist Dr. Kathryn Clark will speak about her experiences with leadership at NASA in an open lecture at Missouri S&T in November. She will discuss what qualities make a good leader and what makes a great one. Clark’s lecture, titled “Find it, fix it, fly: Leadership and NASA Disasters,” will begin at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, in Leach Theatre of Castleman Hall, 10th and Main streets in Rolla. The event is free and open to the public, however tickets will be required.
