Fire-damaged hall to remain closed at Missouri S&T

Emerson Hall at Missouri University of Science and Technology will be closed until further notice following a fire on the roof of the structure on Thursday, Dec. 8. University officials decided to keep Emerson Hall closed following a thorough inspection of the building.

Curator, retired Ameren CEO to speak at Missouri S&T commencement

Thomas R. Voss, retired CEO of Ameren and a member of the University of Missouri System Board of Curators, will speak at two commencement ceremonies at Missouri University of Science and Technology this month. Voss is a 1969 electrical engineering graduate of Missouri S&T.

The Rolla fire chief and Missouri University of Science and Technology representatives will hold a press conference at 5 p.m. today (Thursday, Dec. 8) outside Emerson Hall, located near the corner of 16th and Pine streets in Rolla. The conference will provide details of today’s fire on campus and answer any questions media may have.

41 S&T faculty members honored for outstanding teaching

Forty-one Missouri University of Science and Technology faculty members have received the Outstanding Teaching Award for 2015-16. The winners were recognized at a ceremony held Monday, Dec. 5, on the Missouri S&T campus.

The Outstanding Teaching Award is given each year to faculty members by the Outstanding Teaching Award Committee, which bases its selections on student evaluations.

S&T’s Lusk on committee to help keep miners safe

A Missouri University of Science and Technology researcher is part of a national group looking at ways to keep miners — especially underground coal miners — safe.

Dr. Braden Lusk, professor and chair of mining and nuclear engineering at Missouri S&T, is on the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine committee to study occupational exposure to respirable coal mine dust in underground mines.
