Missouri S&T wins grant to help women, minority scientists become entrepreneurs

Missouri University of Science and Technology, in partnership with the University of Louisville and Indiana University, will be helping women and minority faculty, staff and student innovators improve their success in securing money to commercialize their inventions.

The National Science Foundation has awarded a $225,000 grant for a pilot program, called AWARE: ACCESS: Building Innovation Capacity through Diversity. The University of Louisville is the lead institution for the grant.

Missouri S&T chapter of Engineers Without Borders receives $750,000 in funding

From clean drinking water to flood control, Missouri University of Science and Technology’s Engineers Without Borders projects are changing lives in Central and South America. Now two major donors have stepped forward to provide $750,000 in funding for EWB – a $500,000 challenge grant from the Houston-based Montana Cahill Foundation and a $250,000 gift from Missouri S&T graduate David Heikkinen and his wife, Ann.

Adobe partnership continues to benefit technical communication students at Missouri S&T

Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, Missouri, is beginning its third year of partnership with Adobe Systems Inc., to allow students and faculty in the technical communication program to have hands-on access to Adobe’s industry-standard software. This partnership is made possible through Adobe’s University Outreach Program, which offers licenses of Adobe Technical Communication Suite to the students and faculty in the program.

Missouri S&T student dies in car accident

Renetra Osun, 23, a senior in multidisciplinary studies at Missouri University of Science and Technology, was killed in a traffic accident on Saturday, Feb. 11. She was from St. Louis.
The accident occurred at 5:40 a.m. on U.S Interstate 44 east of Rolla in Phelps County near mile marker 196.2.

But even as he fine-tunes his dissertation on mitigating sinkhole hazards and other karst formations − and takes care of three children ages four and under while his wife completes her own graduate studies in Michigan – the subsistence gold miners of Ghana are never far from Bansah’s mind.
