Stewart Gillies named director of Rock Mechanics and Explosives Research Center
Dr. Stewart Gillies, interim director of the Rock Mechanics and Explosives Research Center at Missouri University of Science and Technology since 2009, has been named director of the center, effective Jan. 1, 2013.

S&T to host mine ventilation short course in April
A Practical Mine Ventilation Design and Control short course will be offered by Missouri University of Science and Technology and the Western Mining Safety and Health Transition Center Wednesday, April 28, through Friday, April 30, on Missouri S&T’s campus. Those who complete the course will receive 24 professional development hours.

Dr. Stewart Gillies, Union Pacific Rocky Mountain Energy Mining Professor at Missouri University of Science and Technology, has been named interim director of the university’s Rock Mechanics and Explosives Research Center. Gillies takes over for Dr. David A. Summers, Curators’ Professor of mining and nuclear engineering at Missouri S&T, who has served in the position for more than 30 years.
