Missouri S&T’s mine rescue team earns second at national competition

The mine rescue team from Missouri University of Science and Technology earned second place in the novice division of a national simulated mine emergency competition. The novice category is for teams competing at a national event for the first time. The team also earned fifth place in the first aid division.

A mine rescue team from Missouri University of Science and Technology will compete in the 2014 National Metal and Nonmetal Mine Rescue Contest that will be held Aug. 4-7 in Lexington, Kentucky. Students from Missouri S&T and one other university will compete against 36 professional teams.

Seven graduates of Missouri University of Science and Technology were inducted into the university’s Academy of Mines and Metallurgy on April 24. The academy is an advisory group that was founded in 1954. The group includes graduates and others who have made outstanding contributions to their professions.

Men’s and women’s mucking teams from Missouri University of Science and Technology will host the 36th annual Intercollegiate Mining Competition April 2-6, in Rolla. Forty-two teams from the United States, Australia, Brazil, Canada and the United Kingdom will compete in the events.

Caterpillar donates hydraulic excavator to S&T’s Experimental Mine

The Experimental Mine Facility at Missouri S&T has a new Cat 316E hydraulic excavator, thanks to Fabick CAT of Fenton, Mo., and Caterpillar Global Mining. The companies presented the excavator, valued at $250,000, to the university at a ceremony on Sept. 26, at Missouri S&T’s Experimental Mine.

Mine rescue contest results released

Missouri University of Science and Technology’s gold team finished in third place in the field portion of the Missouri Mine Rescue Contest that was held Sept. 24-26 at the university. The students competed against seven professional and two student mine rescue teams.
