Missouri S&T’s global learning department will host an online series of talks throughout the fall semester to discuss life during the pandemic, entrepreneurship, and diversity and inclusion. New book chronicles Missouri S&T’s 150-year history
Dr. Larry Gragg tells the story of Missouri S&T from its founding in 1870 to today in a commemorative history book that will be available this fall for the university’s 150th anniversary. Gragg is a Curators’ Distinguished Teaching Professor emeritus of history and political science at Missouri S&T. His new book, Forged in Gold: Missouri S&T’s First 150 Years, is the account of the campus’s commitment to its land grant mission.

They hope to develop a new model to mitigate the formation of heavy organic solids found in the oil during extraction and as a result, make the U.S. more energy independent.

Student health services at Missouri S&T now has the ability to return COVID-19 testing results in a single day. The university recently installed new testing equipment that looks for antigens – molecules that cause a person’s immune system to produce antibodies against illnesses.

Missouri S&T researchers recommend combination of filters for homemade masks, other PPE
A team of researchers at Missouri University of Science and Technology found that several layers of household air filters can achieve filtration performance similar to masks rated N95 – masks that capture 95% of particles. The researchers studied the filtration performance of non-medical materials and recommend making homemade face masks with a combination of fibrous and fabric materials. They say the materials will sufficiently remove aerosols and avoid the inhalation of fiber fragments generated during the cutting and folding of the filters.

Brendan Crotty of Muskogee, Oklahoma, an incoming freshman student at Missouri University of Science and Technology, has earned third place in the 79th Regeneron Science Talent Search – a science and mathematics competition for high school seniors.

Missouri S&T receives additional NSF grant to train cybersecurity experts
Researchers at Missouri S&T will continue to combat cybersecurity threats by training the next generation of experts in the field with a $225,000 grant from the National Science Foundation. The grant will fund Missouri S&T’s computer science department’s “Scholarship for Service” master of science degree and Ph.D. students, who will specialize in cybersecurity.
