Dr. Charmayne Lonergan, an assistant professor of materials science and engineering at Missouri S&T, has been selected for the American Ceramic Society’s 2025 Du-Co Ceramics Young Professional Award

“As an early-career researcher, it’s rewarding to know that my work and service to my profession are being noticed and making a difference,” Lonergan says. “This award is great encouragement to keep moving forward, and it inspires me to continue growing as a researcher.”

The Du-Co Ceramics Young Professional Award was established in honor of Reldon Cooper, a co-founder of Du-Co Ceramics.

It recognizes a young professional member of the American Ceramics Society who demonstrates leadership and service to the society. The recognition includes a $1,500 honorarium, a certificate of recognition and lifetime membership in the society.

Lonergan will be recognized during the society’s Honors and Awards Banquet at its 127th Annual Meeting later this month in Columbus, Ohio.

A member of the Missouri S&T faculty since 2023, Lonergan’s research focuses on glasses, optical materials and measurements, waste vitrification and high-temperature characterization. She is also a Missouri S&T alumna, earning a Ph.D. in materials science and engineering in 2014.

Before joining the S&T faculty, Lonergan was a material scientist at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and a postdoctoral associate at the University of Central Florida.
