Future engineers who aspire to work globally can prepare for their careers through Missouri S&T’s newly revamped Global Engineering Program. Students can enroll in the program starting in the fall 2025 semester.

S&T’s Global Engineering Program will allow students to earn two degrees simultaneously in five years as they increase their intercultural competence and proficiency in a foreign language. Upon completion of the program, graduates will hold a bachelor of science degree in an engineering discipline and a bachelor of arts degree in multidisciplinary studies with a concentration in Spanish.
“The program offers an unparalleled experience for students aspiring to become truly global engineers,” says Alejandra Sobrado, director of the Global Engineering Program and associate teaching professor of Spanish at S&T. “This program provides the benefits of a world-class engineering immersion experience through studying and interning abroad — in both a foreign language and culture — for an entire year. It will prepare engineers to work collaboratively and efficiently on international teams.”

Missouri S&T has partnered with the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso (PUCV) in Chile to have engineering students study at the university. Sobrado says that the goal of this partnership is to strengthen academic cooperation between the two institutions. She recently visited the university to discuss with PUCV leaders additional opportunities for student exchange, international internships, dual-degree programs, and interdisciplinary projects that integrate engineering and humanities.
