In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Missouri University of Science and Technology’s department of inclusion and engagement invites students, faculty and staff to participate in a day of service on Monday, Jan. 20.

There will be a drop-in event 8 a.m. to noon at the Engagement House, located at 605 W. 11th St. on the Missouri S&T campus. Visitors will be able to sign up to participate in volunteer projects on Monday afternoon. Participating organizations include Russell House, Kaleidoscope Discovery Center, Ozark Rivers Audubon Nature Center, Greentree Church, the Phelps County Dream Center, Crossroads Church and the Rolla Mission.

Donations for the Miner Food Pantry and Clothing Closet will be collected during the drop-in event, so those who are unable to volunteer that afternoon can still participate.

The first Martin Luther King Jr. Day was observed in 1986. In 1994, as a tribute to King’s personal commitment to service, Congress designated the day as a national day of service. Missouri S&T volunteers will join the efforts of thousands of individuals and organizations across the county to commemorate the day.
