Acclaimed violinist Joshua Bell will perform at Missouri University of Science and Technology on Tuesday, Feb. 4, as the 33rd presenter in the university’s Remmers Special Artist/Lecturer Series. Bell will be joined by pianist Peter Dugan.
The performance will begin at 7 p.m. in Leach Theatre of Castleman Hall, located at 10th and Main streets in Rolla. The performance is free and open to the public, but tickets will be required and are limited to two per person. Tickets will be available between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Leach Theatre Box Office, located in Missouri S&T’s Castleman Hall.
On Wednesday, Dec. 4, tickets will be available to Missouri S&T students with a valid student ID. Tickets will be available to Missouri S&T faculty and staff with a valid ID on Friday, Dec. 6, and to the general public on Monday, Dec. 16. Tickets are strictly limited to two per person.
With a career spanning almost four decades, Grammy Award-winning violinist Joshua Bell is one of the most celebrated artists of his era. Born in Bloomington, Indiana, Bell began playing the violin at age 4 and debuted with the Philadelphia Orchestra 10 years later. He made his Carnegie Hall debut at age 17 with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra.
Bell has performed with virtually every major orchestra, and maintains engagements as a soloist, recitalist, chamber musician, conductor, and as the music director of the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields in London. Bell has been nominated for six Grammy awards, was named “Instrumentalist of the Year” by Musical America, deemed a “Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum, received the Avery Fisher Prize, and was named an “Indiana Living Legend” in 2000.
The Remmers Special Artist/Lecturer Series is supported through a fund established by the late Walter E. Remmers, a metallurgical engineering graduate of Missouri S&T, and his late wife, Miriam, to bring renowned speakers and performers to the campus. The first Remmers Lecture was held in 1979 and featured former U.S. President Gerald Ford.
