Missouri S&T to honor alumni and faculty during Homecoming

Eight Missouri S&T alumni and one current faculty member will be honored for their professional achievements and service contributions during the Miner Alumni Association’s Legends Luncheon on Friday, Oct. 25. The awards banquet is held annually in conjunction with Missouri S&T’s Homecoming festivities.

The event will be held noon-1:30 p.m. in the Kinyon-Koeppel Grand Hall of Hasselmann Alumni House at Missouri S&T, located at 1100 N. Pine St. in Rolla. The luncheon is open to the public, and tickets are $25. To register, visit mineralumni.com/homecoming. This year’s award recipients include:

  • Rachel Grodsky of Raymore, Missouri, will receive the Robert V. Wolf Alumni Service Award. Grodsky, a lead engineer and subject matter expert at Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technologies, earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in ceramic engineering in 2006 and 2023, respectively.
  • Michael Hayes, of St. Charles, Missouri, will receive the Distinguished Young Alumni Award. Hayes, vice president of planning, design and construction for BJC HealthCare, earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 2007.
  • Peter Heerboth of San Jose, California, will receive the Alumni Achievement Award. Heerboth joined Apple as a software engineer in 2003 and holds 15 patents for his work, including as co-inventor of AirDrop. He earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science in 2003. 
  • Amy Jones of Asbury, Iowa, will receive the Jerry R. Bayless Alumni Merit Award. Jones, a manager in the construction and forestry division at John Deere, earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from S&T in 2008.
  • David McMindes of Overland Park, Kansas, will receive the Alumni Achievement Award. McMindes, who recently retired from Honeywell FM&T after serving as program director and chief technology officer, earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from S&T in 1987.
  • Dr. Amy Patterson, of New York, will receive the Distinguished Young Alumni Award. Patterson, chief program officer at Urban Arts, earned a bachelor’s degree in English from S&T in 2007.
  • Andrew Pepper of Merritt Island, Florida, will receive the Frank H. Mackaman Alumni Service Award. Pepper, a business data partner and subject matter expert at Blue Origin, earned a master’s degree in industrial-organizational psychology from S&T in 2018.
  • Dr. Michael Peterson, assistant professor of philosophy at Missouri S&T, will receive the Class of ’42 Excellence in Teaching Award.
  • Thomas Sieckhaus, of Fenton, Missouri, will receive the Jerry R. Bayless Alumni Merit Award. Sieckhaus, executive vice president, corporate business unit leader, and shareholder at Clayco, earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from S&T in 1988.
