Just in time for Halloween, the Miner Theatre Guild in collaboration with the Student Union Board at Missouri University of Science and Technology will host a special screening of the 1975 cult classic “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” on Sunday, Oct. 27.
The show will begin at 8 p.m. in Leach Theatre of Castleman Hall on the Missouri S&T campus, located at the corner of 10th and Main streets in Rolla. Tickets are $5 for the public and free for Missouri S&T students.
“The Rocky Horror Picture Show” is no ordinary night at the movies. From its early years as a staple of midnight film screenings, fans have sung along with the songs and talked back to the screen. Over time, certain callouts have become traditional, as well as the use of props in response to events or characters onscreen.
Shadow casts, in which a team of actors perform along with the film, have also become a staple of “Rocky Horror” screenings. Members of the Miner Theatre Guild will perform as the shadow cast for this showing, and will make it easy for the audience to follow along.
“Every audience member will receive a prop bag with instructions on how to participate,” says Madison Kastner, president of the Miner Theatre Guild. “This will cover when they should use the props, and some callouts they can use throughout the show. We’ll also go over the rules at the beginning of the show.”
And for those who want to get in the Halloween spirit a little early, dressing up as “Rocky Horror” characters can be part of the fun.
“We’d love to encourage the audience members to dress up as characters from the film,” says Kastner.
“The Rocky Horror Picture Show” is rated R, and the live performance and audience participation will include mature themes and strong language. This event is recommended for mature audiences.
Tickets can be purchased online at minertix.universitytickets.com (select the category “Leach Theatre”), or at the door to the event. Service fees may apply to tickets purchased online.
