Missouri S&T to host fall observatory events

There will be several chances to view celestial objects at the Missouri S&T Observatory this fall. Sam O’Keefe/Missouri S&T

Amateur astronomers are invited to observe the skies through the 16-inch telescope at the Missouri S&T Observatory. Weather permitting, the S&T Astronomical Research Society will host free viewings throughout the fall semester. 

Six upcoming viewings are planned for the fall: 

•              The moon – 8:45-11:45 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14 

•              Saturn – 8:30-11:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27 

•              Hercules Cluster – 8.-11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25 

•              Pleiades Cluster – 7-10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8 

•              Jupiter – 6:30-9:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22 

•              Andromeda Galaxy – 6-9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6. 

These viewings are free and open to the public; no reservation or ticket is required. Children are welcome at the observatory, but they must be accompanied by an adult. Visitors must be able to climb a small set of stairs to reach the telescope.
